At a political fundraiser last night, President Obama said he kept “a little checklist” with his campaign promises, and that he believes he’s kept about 60 percent of his campaign promises. That might be news to those individuals who reviewed his 2008 health care platform, because Obamacare has done more to break candidate Obama’s campaign promises than to keep them.

The purpose of this bill is to support a free market method of increasing demand for housing at a time when so many working-class Americans are underwater on their homes, are desperate for prices to rise again, and big-government programs have failed to work. I am sponsoring this bill because I know that it makes economic sense while protecting American citizens.

Joint Economic Committee Hearing with Ben Bernanke

“The Economic Outlook”

Oct 04 2011

In 1977, Congress first gave the Federal Reserve a dual mandate to promote both "maximum employment" and "stable prices." Unfortunately, in the last few years, we've had anything but maximum employment and stable prices. Most Americans believe the prices of products and services they buy on a daily basis like food, gasoline, electricity, heating oil, and health care services have increased significantly in recent years and grown more volatile. Moreover, we have official unemployment over 9 percent and many Americans struggling to find work in a difficult economy. Therefore, in my view, the Federal Reserve is failing in its Congressional mandate and some action should be taken to remedy this.

The Senate is often referred to as the world’s greatest deliberative body. Unfortunately, it is becoming less common for the Senate to deliberate on anything, at least in a public, open, and transparent way.

Today we honor the lives of the victims and their families that were forever altered on this tragic day ten years ago. We will never forget this senseless act of violence and those who lost their lives. Americans must remain vigilant in the struggle to prevent these terrorist acts. We owe a great debt of gratitude to the men and women of our national security and defense agencies who do the very difficult work of protecting this country, her people and her interests both at home and abroad. For their effort, we are both a free and secure nation 10 years later.
Yesterday, I held two more town halls in Southern Utah to hear from residents about the issues their having in their communities. The smaller event in Beaver turned into a great dialogue about a range of issues affecting Beaver County.

Around 150 people attended and the issues ranged from spending in Washington to immigration to the Narrows project. I heard many people voice concerns that Washington was not doing its job addressing illegal immigration into our country. They said that state legislators in Utah had tried to do something about the problem but that ultimately the federal government would have to step up enforcement. I couldn’t agree more, and would add that part of the problem is how difficult it is to come to this country legally. By addressing the backlog of legal immigration we can significantly reduce the motivation to come here illegally.

Restoring the Limited Role of the Federal Government

Speech to the Young America’s Foundation

Aug 11 2011

We have to get out of it. Our ability to provide jobs, our ability to continue to be the world's most robust economy depends upon getting our house in order, but it is not just our financial well-being, it is also our individual liberty that will benefit as we take this step, as we pass a balanced budget amendment, and as we restore that which is properly ours.
